Member Spotlight: Hooked Up Fishing Gear & Outdoors
In the summer of 2021, Jay Hollman was sitting at the table with his wife and kids when the idea of ‘Hooked Up Fishing Gear’ came to him.
He recalls saying to them “Spruce Grove doesn’t have a fishing store; we should open one!”
Just eight weeks later, they finalized the purchase of the store front and began the building process. They were looking for ways to close the gaps within their local community by adding a customer focused and family-oriented store. Jay wanted this store to give families more time for adventures by eliminating the grand trek into the city to stock up on supplies for an afternoon by the shore, at the range or out on a hunt. At Hooked Up Fishing Gear & Outdoors, it’s all about being outside in the elements! They sell all the major fishing brands and offer on-site line spooling, seasonal Kayak Rentals and more!
Located in Spruce Grove on Saskatchewan Ave, they have gained a loyal and ever-growing customer base since opening in December of 2021.
They are constantly evolving and growing! New for this year, they have designed and released their own spinning and casting rod for the 2024 Open Water season; but that’s not all! As of March 1st, they partnered with Lawrence Huot from Accurate Archery to offer a one-stop Pro Shop for Bow Tuning, Stringing, Sales, Service and Archery Accessories to the local community. Their next big thing will be to offer online sales before Fall of 2024.
Small businesses always support the local community and Hooked Up Fishing Gears & Outdoors is no exception. They give back to the local Curling Club, Youth Swim Team, Community Fish and Game Associations, and the Kids Can Catch program. Hooked Up is passionate about kids and youth programs in the community and last fall, they conducted a 2- part course for the Outdoor Education Program at SML Christian Academy in Stony Plain and brought materials to do a knot-tying class with the kids. A couple of days later they met up with the students again at Hasse Lake with their fishing rods for a casting class.
After three years since opening the business, Jay credits their success to the valued customers and community support. Whether you are trying something new, or you know what you are looking for; they are there to provide the services and support you need to make your next adventure a success!

Hooked Up Fishing Gear & Outdoors is proud to manufacture Hooked Up Baits products in-house. They offer their very own line of Hooked Up Soft Plastics, Jig Heads and in-house airbrushed hard baits; all made/painted and processed in-house by the owner himself!
