Member Spotlight: Pleasant Homes

Pleasant-Homes-1

Pleasant Homes was established in 1983 and has been serving families, municipalities, developers, and indigenous communities with a commitment to quality and service excellence for the past 40 years. Simon Boersma started as a young man working in an entry-level position at the Regent Homes manufacturing facility in Lethbridge on the factory floor. He quickly worked his way up to Foreman before he decided to set up his business contracting to do set up, service, and warranty work for Pleasant Homes, later moving into a partnership with Gary. Gary Hauk spent over 25 years working for the Saskatchewan Provincial Government, managing various social, affordable, rural, and Indigenous housing programs and eventually the province's entire Housing Authority Network of over 325 local agencies. Gary's extensive knowledge of housing, the challenges of supplying homes to remote communities, and his capability to create trusting relationships have enabled the business to thrive.

They recently opened their second location in Acheson in Zone 1, as they believe competition breeds business.

They wholeheartedly support initiatives such as "shop local, buy local" and are conscious of efforts to promote diversification in neighborhoods, schools, service clubs, organizations, and others working to provide inclusion in daily life activities.

In 2006, the partners grew the business from residential manufactured homes to modular homes, ready-to-move homes, cottages, park models, offices, and commercial structures. They believe that modular construction enables flexibility. Pleasant Homes is one of the only modular home retailers in Western Canada that offers full turn-key options, coordinating every step of the construction process, including permitting, and the only organization in the metro Edmonton area servicing older, manufactured, and mobile homes.

With age comes experience and wisdom. Pleasant Homes has learned a couple of things along the way. For over four decades (two generations!), they have built exceptional relationships and a reputation amongst home buyers and industry partners as a trusted and caring company. They deliver homes and commercial modular structures across the Canadian prairies and northern territories with personalized and professional service.

With the company motto being 'We build homes, you build memories,' it is unsurprising that family orientation is fundamental to Pleasant Homes.

They have supported many initiatives around education, safe neighborhoods', and sporting events in communities they deliver housing to, including the northern communities and those around their home. Giving back to the community is a particular passion for Simon and Gary; from supporting Orange T-Shirt Day to food drives in town to building schools overseas and shower systems for those experiencing homelessness in Edmonton, someone can always find the pair doing something for their local community and beyond.

When time is money, modular construction has the advantage. Increasingly, modular homes are becoming mainstream, and developers are seeking speedier construction methods. The business serves crown corporations, municipalities, developers, First Nations and Metis Communities. Pleasant Homes is incredibly proud of the relationships they have built that speak to the value they offer, along with their ethics and integrity.
